The Smoke and Mirrors show as some what of a letdown. The theater was a small local, max 100 seat venue, the seats where barley filled, and the acts were, well, not worth $15. The whole night can be summed up in two words, Local Show. If it not for the show being for charity, I would have asked for my money back.
The Lynnwood Magic Club and The Burned Children Recovery Foundation are proud to continue an annual tradition for a great cause. Join us for a spectacular evening of magic, mystery and fun featuring some of the finest performers in the Pacific Northwest.

Recently I began collecting playing cards or as I like to call it pasteboard collecting. I am not sure why I stared it but the first deck I put in my collection was the 909 Propaganda deck. Designed by Theory 11 this deck’s design features two gas masks, B12 bombers, and the bombs they drop in a military and industrial look. They are printed on bicycle playing card stock with the air flow quality. The tuck case is just as much a feature of the deck as the playing cards themselves.

The faces of the cards are pretty much the same except of a color difference and of course Special Ace of Spades and Jokers. I was very pleased to have this be the first deck in my collection.
I think my interest to start collection decks came from when I decided to design my own playing card, to which is now featured in the design of this website. After I received the 909 propaganda deck, I began searching for more interesting decks of cards. I decided to not just collect each and every deck of cards that has ever been made, because I do not find a sponge bob square pants deck to be interesting at all but only ones I liked. I quickly made a list of over 79 different decks of cards, with Jerry’s Nugget being at the top, a rare deck of cards printed for the old Jerry Nugget casino and never used only to be sold privately and now costing around $150 per deck.
I next made a purchase of several cards on my list. I wanted to get some of Dan and Dave Buck’s Smoke and Mirror decks which were all sold out and costing around $30 per deck. I found both the Smoke and Mirrors on eBay selling together for $15 so I jumped on it and the seller offered group shipping if I purchased other decks. So I also got Bicycle Vintage 1800 series cards, with a torn and used designed card box and card back and face. Very cool and very realistic it is almost scary to use them thinking they should be old and grimy but feeling like a new deck of cards. I next added what are called Bicycle Seconds, which is a deck of cards that did not meet the bicycle standard, being off set printing my fractions of a millimeter and sold cheaper then a regular deck of cards. (I can barley tell that they are mis-printed) I also purchased the Tragic Royalty deck, a special bicycle Halloween deck, which has horribly scary faces that glow in the dark for the face cards and a black card backs with the angels in red.
Much to my surprise when I received all the cards, I always buy two of each so I can open one and keep the other sealed. I got 4 smoke and mirror decks, 2 smoke and 2 mirror for the steal of $15, which was cheaper then what Dan and Dave were selling them for when they weren’t sold out. So I was able to open one of the decks and check out the quality, which feels almost better then bicycles.
So far my collection is got me really excited and I cant play with the decks I opened enough, I cant wait until my next order.

On March 19 at 8 p.m. Heavens Nightclub is hosting “The Cabaret of Dr. Caligari”, one of the most unusual shows you’ll see in Seattle.
Hosted by Philemon Vanderbeck, who runs the Dr. Caligari Memorial Sanitorium, the evening is an educational experience displaying the various neuroses and maladies exhibited by half a dozen patients entrusted into his care.
Philemon is an advocate of “performance therapy,” and it is his sincere belief by allowing his patients to act out their psychoses in public, that they progress closer along the road to recovery.
In the past, aberrant conditions such as masochism, exhibitionism, and schizophrenia have been displayed, with bizarre twists. Each month, a particular theme is the focus of the exhibition. This time it’s “Ready For Our Close-Up.”
